Last Wednesday we were heading home through Southern Oregon from our summer vacation up in the Pacific NW when we encountered an unexpected rain storm. Gray mist suddenly appeared against the vibrant green of the hills as the gentle cadence of raindrops danced upon our windshield. First one, then two, and eventually a downpour. We put our rarely used windshield wipers to use and continued the long southbound toward home. Naturally, it was when the rain was strongest that we had to make a pit stop and the only business within sight was an old boarded cafe aptly named, "Heaven on Earth." (See photo below!) I smirked to myself as we opened the door to be greeted by the enticing scent of freshly baked cinnamon rolls and marionberry pie. "How on earth does this place stay in business?" I thought to myself. Perhaps it stayed afloat from road-warriors like us wandering in for an escape from the usual Oregon rain. Like a sun warmed car on a cold windy day, it was sweet relief to our souls. The cozy environment ignited a desire within me for fur trimmed coats, deliciously soft turtlenecks, and over the knee boots. Yes, it typically comes back to fashion for me ;)
Every winter I buy a new coat. I search carefully for one that can be both casual and dressy. The fur collar has buttons which allow it to be easily removed, in warmer seasons. I was grateful to get the last one in the state of California in my size from Anthropologie. Admittedly, I'm a bit of a nightmare to shop for around Christmastime, so I let this be my Christmas present from my husband. I then proceded to wear it all winter long! I have even used it in several shoots I have styled. For today's look I played with falls favorite neutral by going grey on grey. I especially love the contrast of grey against the honey colored fur. I paired it with my uber soft merino wool turtleneck from J. Crew and my over the knee boots from Sam Edelman. The last of my looks with this 40's inspired amazing updo, I loved the play on modern and vintage. Always go forward in life and style by capturing the best of the past and bringing it into the future :)
