Every year I do a major closet clean out. I give away or sell anything I have not worn in the past year. I repair anything that needs repairing and throw away that which has been worn threadbare. Every year I come to the same realization: The clothing I spend more on typically holds up better. It’s not a novel revelation, but it reminds that I never regret investing a bit more on quality pieces. Typically, my basic tees and tanks need to get refreshed, as do my athletic wear etc. I have shocked more than one friend with how streamlined I make my closet each year.
I simply won't keep anything I don't love.
After I clean it all out, I assess what I need and I always start back at the beginning with the basics.
Currently, brisk ocean breezes have been blowing across the rolling green hills of my little town making a light layering jacket essential. I am always crushing on a black and tan palette, so I decided that a trench was "the basic" I was missing this season. Along comes good old Topshop delivering a classic stone colored trench with a longline double breasted front, belted waistline, and gun flap...because you know, who doesn’t need a gun flap? #PackingHeatStyle ;)
The best part? It was all for a clean $150. In my opinion, no wardrobe is complete without a classic trench. I love pairing a timeless piece with more trendy pieces. I did that here with my modern wood soled Vince mules, distressed denim, and chain strapped Chloe "Drew" bag. I am certain you will be seeing a lot of these pieces in heavy rotation over the next few posts. A new uniform has been born!
